BMW compatible 3-button key housing with straight key blade with notch center (HU58) to replace your damaged or defective key housing. The key is suitable for BMW E39, BMW E46 and BMW E75, among others.

No that is not necessary, you can have a functioning key housing again without technical knowledge.
What do you need to do?
Step 1. Open your existing key, remove the electronics, battery and immobilizer and place them in the new key housing. Close the housing.
Step 2. Have your key copied by a key maker and close the housing.
Step 3. That's all, you now have a functioning key housing again.
